ryan dorsey shared an update on his son, Josey, nearly three years after the death of his ex Naya Rivera.
“He is overall a happy boy and I am trying to keep him together and provide him with a safe and happy life,” said the IP magnum actor, 39, said of Josey, 7, while speaking with entertainment tonight in an interview published on Thursday, March 23. “She is doing very well in school and has many friends. He is a very social boy. Everybody loves Josey and he’s funny.”
Ryan then reflected on the difficulties of raising Josey without the help of Naya, who died in July 2020 during a drowning incident.
He noted that “some days are more difficult than others and some days… I am optimistic and some days I am sad”.
“It’s hard for me when Josey says certain things and misses her mom or whatever, or brings up certain moments that she’s obviously never going to forget about the worst day of her life,” Ryan continued.
The father-of-one admitted that he is still learning how to talk to Josey about Naya. “I don’t have much to say except I just say, ‘I know dude and I love you,’ and just give him a hug,” Ryan explained. “Just a father to son human contact and rubbing his head and squeezing him because that’s all I can do because I don’t really have any answers.”
He big sky The actor also revealed that Josey is likely to follow in her parents’ footsteps and pursue a creative career, adding that she has expressed interest in starting a YouTube channel.
“He’s been practicing and he has all these videos. You’ll hear him say, ‘Smash that like button, subscribe and comment below!’ She’s almost 8 years old, so it’s that time if she really wants to do it,” she told the outlet. “She’s reading, she’s writing, she’s doing all these things, so pretty soon she’ll be editing on her own. I’m just trying to help him.”
Ryan shared what Josey has been up to almost three years after Naya’s passing. On July 8, 2020, the Happiness alum was declared a missing person after Josey, who was 4 years old at the time, was found alone in a boat in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California.
Five days after she went missing, Naya was pronounced dead on July 13.
Naya and Ryan were married from 2014 to 2018 with Josey being their only child.
