Following the successful sale of his memoirs, the Duke of Sussex reflected on the outcome of the book, noting that he doesn’t “see [himself] as a victim” during a March 2023 interview with Dr. Gabor Maté, by page six.
“I am truly grateful to be able to share my story in the hope that it will help, empower, encourage others and hopefully allow people to understand, again going back to the human experience. [that] We are all connected in some way, especially through trauma,” Harry explained.

According to the book official website, Replacement promises to tell the “raw” story of Harry’s life after the world watched and prince william walk behind the coffin of his mother, the deceased Princess Diana – which is described as “one of the most searing images of the 20th century”.
after news of harry’s memories broke in July 2022, the former hard-working member of the royal family released a statement about the content of Replacement. “I am writing this not as the prince I was born, but as the man I have become,” the Archewell founder said in a statement. “I have worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that by telling my story, the ups and downs, the mistakes, the lessons learned, I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think”.
He added: “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I have learned throughout my life thus far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that is accurate and totally truthful.”

“I want a family, not an institution,” Harry told a British journalist. tom bradby in a sneak peek of the revealing interview. “I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back.”
Casting Bradby as the interviewer in question was a strategic move for the former royal. Prior to the book’s release, Harry’s 60 minutes interview with CNN anderson-cooper will also air on Sunday, January 8, 2023. In a clip posted in early January, the newscaster asked the father-of-two about the backlash he and his wife Meghan received after announcing their plans to step down as working members of The Royal Familynoting that he tried to handle the matter privately.
“And every time I’ve tried to do it in private, there have been briefings, leaks and seeding of stories against me and my wife.” Harry said in a preview clip.. “You know, the family motto is ‘Never complain, never explain.’ It’s just a motto.”
Commenting on the scrutiny Meghan endured when she married into the family and comparing her experience to that of Catherine and Queen consort Camilla‘s, Harry was quick to point out the racial component in another preview clip of his interview.
“You add the element of the race, which was what the British press jumped on immediately,” Harry told Anderson. “I went into this incredibly naive. I had no idea the British press was so intolerant. He was probably intolerant before the relationship with Meghan.”
Pressing Harry to comment further on his past behavior and possible intolerance, the Duke of Sussex concluded: “Let’s put it this way, I didn’t see what I see now.

Replacement was released on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
Prince Harry ‘Spare’ Book Sale
On the first day of sales, Spare’s English version sold 1.4 million copies, breaking a record for Penguin Random House publishing.
“The first full day of sales of Replacement represents the highest first-day sales total for any nonfiction book ever published by Penguin Random House, the world’s largest trade publisher,” the publisher said, adding that the book has already “returned to print for copies additional to meet demand.
