Ben and Mahogany made their debut in season 5 of the 90 day fiance cleave. Ben was a 52-year-old divorced father of four from Fraser, Michigan who previously served as executive director of the Michigan Lupus Foundation. He met Mahogany, who was 24 from South America, on social media. The couple had been dating long distance for three months when they joined the show and Ben was ready to meet her in person for the first time. But the red flags in their romance were spotted almost immediately when Ben’s friends and family speculated that Mahogany wasn’t really who he claimed to be and that she might be a catfish.
She added fuel to the speculation when she jilted Ben at the airport when he landed in his home country of Peru. He wasn’t ready to give up on her love, so he arranged a trip to her city, San Bartolo, where he invited her to have dinner with him. It looked like he would be stood up for the second time after waiting over an hour at the restaurant, but Mahogany surprised both Ben and the onlookers when she finally showed up.
What happened in season 5 of ’90 Day Fiancé: before the 90 days’?
The pair didn’t exactly hit it off, as their dinner conversation seemed awkward. Ben also expressed concern that Mahogany didn’t feel the same way he did. “I definitely still see her as my future wife, but we are definitely on two different levels right now,” Ben said in his confessional on the February 20, 2022 episode. “I still have my heart out there, I love her, I want to express to her that but she is not reciprocating. And she’s just not the same way that she was online, she’s not saying ‘I love you’ and that’s very concerning.”
Further concerns arose when Mahogany invited Ben over to her apartment, where she arranged a meeting between Ben and his parents. Ben said that when he was talking to Mahogany online, she had previously told him that she lived with her parents and she was confused when she showed him her apartment, where she lived alone. Ben also questioned if the rental was really Mahogany’s apartment, as he said that she didn’t seem to know how to navigate the space and that she didn’t have any personal photos on display.
During a conversation with Mahogany’s parents, Ben also learned that Mahogany was actually 22, even though she told him that she was 24.
The couple hit an even bigger bump in the road when they set off on what should have been a romantic couples’ getaway to Huacachina, an oasis in the Peruvian desert. After enjoying dinner after a dune buggy ride, Ben and Mahogany got into a big fight because she felt he blamed her ex for her failed marriage and her past relationship. That night, Ben explained his love story to Mahogany in a series of text messages and was upset when she didn’t reply to any of them. The next day, Mahogany invited Ben to have breakfast with her and her parents, who also traveled to Huacachina, at her hotel. Ben refused to attend, which upset Mahogany so much that she ended up leaving Ben behind her. He had to pay almost $250 USD for a taxi to travel back to his town of San Bartolo.
Once he got back to San Bartolo, Ben asked Mahogany to meet him and they seemed to be able to work out their issues, but it seems they hit another rough patch in the season finale.
The reveal filmed in January 2022 would prove difficult for Ben and Mahogany. Apart from his companions 90 day fiance the co-stars’ criticism of their romantic connection, when the host shaun robinson asked Mahogany about the status of their relationship, the Peru native replied: “Benjamin needs to prove more: if he [has] a good intention.”
“We have a very young relationship. It’s very new,” Ben added. “And she’s worried that he’s still not here for the right reasons. And it takes trust. There is no replacement for trust, and there is no replacement for time. You can’t substitute anything for it. It doesn’t matter how much you love someone, so it will take a while.”
Despite the ups and downs, Ben and Mahogany were able to get over all their relationship issues and are still together. In February, a Reddit user posted a photo of the couple after they were seen walking together in a shopping center in Lima, the capital of Peru. The user added: “They appear to be a couple.”

In a YouTube video titled “Looking for a RING!” which was published on August 9, 2022, Ben and Mahogany documented the days leading up to Ben’s proposal and Mahogany’s reaction after he popped the question at the same restaurant where they first met in person.
“He walked through that door right there and here he is today,” Ben said, panning the camera to Mahogany. “And what just happened, can you tell me what just happened?”
Mahogany raised her left hand towards the camera to display the diamond sparkler on her ring finger. “You can see [at] this? Oh wow,” she said.
“I just asked her to be my wife and she said…” Ben added. Mahogany replied: “Yes.”

The couple intensified their relationship in 2023 after it was revealed that Ben had Mahogany’s name tattooed on his wrist.

However, in April 2023, Mahogany returned to Instagram with a shocking update, revealing that she overdosed on pills that nearly killed her, something Ben witnessed while on the phone.
“I started taking some pills to rest until work, love, more friends completely stole my time [sic]”, detailed the TLC personality. “And I accidentally thought that I would sleep happily! I don’t remember much of the story, but when I was unconscious, I wanted to be able to live, and I couldn’t! I heard Ben’s voice on the phone yelling, ‘Mahogany!
