Onscreen nudity isn’t a rarity in movies and TV these days, and countless actresses have accomplished the daunting task with grace. Whether it’s a sex scene or a simple stripping moment on camera, many women in Hollywood have chosen to go completely nude on film.
As one of the most famous faces in the industry, Jennifer Lawrence chose to be nude in her 2018 film, red sparrow, having previously avoided showing too much skin in the film. Her crime thriller marked the first time she had stripped naked on camera, and it was a tall order after she and many other women in the business fell victim to a nude photo leak in 2014.
“The insecurity and the fear of being judged for stripping, what I went through, should that dictate the decisions I will make for the rest of my life?” said the Academy Award winner Variety in February 2018. “This movie changed that, and I didn’t even realize how important it was to change that mindset until I finished it.”
As for how she prepared to film such vulnerable moments, Jennifer explained how she and the director francisco lorenzo discussed everything beforehand.
“We talked a lot about it, which was really important to show up on the day and not have any surprises,” he added. “I knew exactly what was going on, and there was also a time when he came out to give me a note and looked at me like I had clothes on, and then I felt like I had clothes on. I was surrounded by professionals and everyone was completely professional.”
Since professionalism on a film set is key, many others have also filmed daring moments. While dakota johnson has appeared in several films, she is best known for playing the role of Anastasia Steele in the adaptation of Fifty Shades of Greyfeaturing multiple sexual moments.
“Nudity is really interesting for an actor,” Dakota explained to Fashion in January 2017.”James [Dornan] and I worked so incredibly closely for so long. There were no inhibitions, and he was very honest, very confident. But I mean, what a gamble! What if he had turned out to be a total idiot? There is no makeup. There are no clothes to tell you a little about the story. There are no jewels that give you a clue about social status. So, it becomes purely about acting.”
