During the season 3 finale, Tammy’s brother, chris, revealed that she was taken to the hospital because she couldn’t breathe one day after entering a rehab center for food addiction. The TLC star was placed on a ventilator and put into a medically induced coma.
“They just tell us that her lungs have given up and her body is shutting down,” her sister said. amanda he said, adding that the family was “faced with making funeral arrangements” for Tammy.
After the reality star woke up, she had a tracheotomy performed to have a breathing tube inserted down her throat. She was able to return to rehab after spending three weeks in the hospital.
During his stay, Chris gave an encouraging update about his sister. “She has lost 100 [pounds] — I think he told me 115 pounds in total — in 30 days,” he told the cameras during the final. “I’m thrilled that she’s ready to jump on this train and start rolling down the tracks.”
Tammy updated her followers via TikTok in February 2022 that she was still residing in the food addiction rehab center after her medical emergency. She plans to stay at the Ohio rehab center through the summer.
Though fans haven’t heard from her for quite some time, Tammy shared a TikTok video in June 2022, in which she criticized comments about her soda consumption, noting that she was enjoying sugar-free drinks.
In September 2022, the reality star assured her TikTok followers that she was feeling “fine” despite dealing with a bacterial infection.
As she continues her weight loss journey, fans are cheering her on. “Give updates on her weight loss! You look so much better, girl. Glad to see you looking and feeling better…Keep it up,” a user previously commented on TikTok. “Stay motivated! You got it!!” someone else wrote. “You look so good Tammy. I’m so proud of you girl!” a separate comment read.
That being said, some fans are skeptical of Tammy’s recent weight loss, considering she was in a coma for weeks. Throughout the show’s history, Tammy has been shown to deceive her family about her weight loss company while her sister Amy Slaton Halterman he has gone on to quality for bariatric surgery and achieve his goal of raising a family.
However, Tammy experienced a major milestone when she reached her ideal weight to qualify for weight loss surgery during a February 2023 episode of the reality show.
Although he needed to weigh 550 pounds, he was surprised to learn that he actually weighed 534.7 pounds.
“When I got on the scale and saw that the scale was 534.7, I stopped breathing for a second,” the TLC personality told the cameras. “I’m like 14 pounds under my goal weight of 700+. That’s a big drop.”
Tammy then laughed, adding, “I did that!”
